Judges Reveal Winner of Jamie’s Italian Design Challenge
Clacton Coastal Academy have been named as the winner of the Design a Restaurant Challenge with Jamie’s Italian, pipping other schools from across the UK to the title.
Design Engineer Construct! ® (DEC!), an accredited learning programme for secondary school students, and Jamie’s Italian teamed up to invite students with aspirations in design, engineering, and construction to devise a restaurant that “encapsulates the ethos and core values of Jamie’s vision for the Jamie’s Italian concept, as well as being set up for commercial success.”
The challenge provided students with the chance to pour their creative talents into the project, which involved identifying a suitable local building and, on paper, transforming it into a working Jamie’s Italian restaurant.
The judging panel responsible with the difficult task of picking a winner included the construction project manager of the Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group, Gavin Beesley, as well as Justin Hardy, director of design & developments at the Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group.
And it was Clacton Coastal Academy who ran out as winners, and the two-strong team can now look forward to their prize which consists of a day ‘behind the scenes’ at a Jamie’s Italian restaurant, and also includes a lunch hosted by Gennaro Contaldo and the Jamie’s Italian design team.
